Development charges alone have reached over $100,000 per single-family home in many areas, and with additional levies, that number can climb as high as $200,000. Recently, a joint federal-provincial initiative allowed municipalities to unlock funding if they reduced residential development charges by 30% to 50% (or more) and kept those reductions in place for at least three years. Following the HST cut, Ontario saw 8,400 new home sales in just three months\u2014a significant jump from the usual 3,600 in the same stretch.
